DUA SALEH BODY CAST

While many are waking up to the reality of police brutality for the first time in their lives as a result of the Justice For George Floyd movement, the Black community and in particular Black artists have been all too aware of it for as long as it has impacted on their lives. As a team of White writers, we too are guilty of not doing enough, of not educating ourselves enough, and of not always appreciating the intricate and far reaching consequences of racism. It’s not our words you should be listening to, but to the voices of those who have been screaming out for an end to the violence upon Black people, communities, families, culture and so on. One such voice is that of Dua Saleh. A year ago, they recorded ‘body cast’ with Psymun and intended to save it for a future project, but as they say, “i can’t wait that long. this song is about police brutality and injustice.” Head to Bandcamp here to purchase the track, as all proceeds will be donated to Black Visions Collective. All of the names listed on the covert art for ‘body cast’ belong to unarmed Black people killed by police in recent years. - Hannah Thacker
